Solar PV system helps Trimline Group slash £1.3 million from its energy bills

Trimline, a third-generation family-owned business, was founded over 35 years ago. The company, based in Swanley, on the outskirts of London, specialises in the supply of tiling systems for residential and commercial projects across the UK. Its cost-effective and trusted solutions are relied upon by some of the world’s most ambitious contractors.

“Our ability to generate clean renewable energy every day, slashes our CO2 output and reduces our reliance on grid fed power. We are now able to measure our energy generation and consumption on site. Choosing solar power made perfect sense for us from both sustainability and financial perspectives.”

The Challenge

In 2016, the company acquired a new 65,000 sq ft warehouse facility adjacent to the M25, the additional capacity intending to futureproof the business for expansion. The building, dubbed The Teardrop Centre, acts as the company’s main distribution hub.

As part of its ongoing commitment to a sustainable future, the company’s well-structured operations department ensures that all its vehicles are routed to their destinations in the most efficient way, by using a route optimisation system that allows it to reduce its emission output. In addition, all its vehicles are Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) compliant.

It was this commitment to a greener future, as well as a desire to reduce its energy bills, which led to the company enquiring about a Commercial Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system for its warehouse unit.

The Solution

Following a review of the site and its requirements, designers recommended the installation of a bespoke 249.8kWp Solar PV System. The total solution included site survey, system design, District Network Operator (DNO) approvals, Health & Safety compliance, total project management of the installation and electrical services connection.

The Outcome

The system is estimated to generate around 240,000kWh of clean, free energy per annum and save around 84 tonnes of CO2 in its first year. It is estimated the system will save around £1.3 million over the course of its 25-year lifetime, equating to a return on investment of 782%.

The system also demonstrates Trimline’s commitment to further reducing its carbon footprint, putting sustainability at the heart of the business.
