Solar Energy For Your Cold Storage Warehouse
Warehouse Solar Installation Guidelines
A Commercial Solar PV installation can be mounted on a suitable roof with an orientation from East to West through the Southerly side of the compass. Our expert Solar PV team has vast experience, and our design-led approach ensures each system will optimise returns related to the electrical energy generated, helping lower your energy bills over the lifetime of the system – usually around 25 years plus.
The panels can be fitted to the roof of new warehousing or logistics facilities, or else retrofitted to existing facilities.
What is the installation process?
ASG take care of everything for you; the total solution covers site survey, system design, District Network Operator (DNO) approvals, Health & Safety compliance, total project management
of the installation, and electrical services connection.
In addition to every unit you consume from your own PV system, any surplus power can be exported and sold to the grid via the government’s ‘Smart Export Guarantee’.
For larger systems, an additional income is available through an export power purchase agreement typically at a higher rate.
Quality Solar PV Components
ASG Energy Services only uses the highest quality ‘tier one’ bankable Solar PV panels, mounting systems, and inverters. All are proven for the UK market and these, together with our first-class design and Solar PV installation teams, guarantee your total satisfaction.

Solar for Cold Storage Warehouses FAQ's
How can my cold storage warehouse benefit from solar power?
There are plenty of advantages. Firstly, solar panels will significantly cut your energy bills, especially since refrigeration accounts for up to 60% of electricity usage in a cold storage warehouse.
The cost of solar energy remains stable, which helps with financial forecasting and shields you from rising energy costs.
Solar panels can also increase your property value, enhance your brand’s sustainability credentials, and future-proof your operations against ever stricter environmental regulations.
Last but not least, they lower your carbon footprint, helping you reach CSR goals.
Can warehouse solar fully cover the electricity needs of my cold storage warehouse?
Solar power can cover a large chunk of your energy needs. On average, solar panels can cover 20-50% of a warehouse’s energy demands.
While complete coverage depends on factors like system size and energy consumption, with the right setup, solar power can greatly reduce reliance on grid electricity, creating a more sustainable and cost-effective solution.
I need cold storage 24/7 — what happens if there’s a power cut?
In the event of a grid outage, standalone solar photovoltaic (PV) systems will usually stop generating electricity to prevent power from flowing back into the grid, protecting technicians during repairs.
However, many solar PV systems include battery storage, which acts as a backup. When a power cut occurs, the batteries activate automatically to keep your refrigeration systems running using stored energy. Your warehouse can then continue operating until the main power supply is restored.
How much will I save on energy costs by installing solar panels?
On average, you can save up to 20%! As electricity prices have fluctuated dramatically in recent years, these savings offer stability and peace of mind.
Typically, the investment in a solar PV system pays off within 3 to 6 years, depending on the system size and energy consumption — meaning faster returns for higher energy users.
Will solar panels perform well in the winter months?
If you’re questioning whether solar powers are a good investment in the British weather, the answer is yes.
Solar panels can still generate electricity during the dreary winter months. While shorter daylight hours may reduce the output, solar panels can still perform well in cooler temperatures and will still produce electricity on cloudy days.
